How to select best steering mechanism? A tractor toy powered by e-rickshaw DC Motor.

We have some trouble in selection of steering mechanism for tractor toy which can bear a load of 70Kgs and is powered by DC motor of e-rickshaw. Any suggestions?

When designing a steering mechanism for a toy tractor powered by a DC motor, like that of an e-rickshaw, several key factors must be considered to ensure optimal operation.

  1. Type of Steering Mechanism: The selection depends on the size, intended use, and complexity of the toy. For smaller, simpler toys, direct steering (where the front wheels are directly connected to the steering wheel through a mechanical linkage) may be sufficient. For a more advanced or larger toy, an Ackermann steering mechanism could provide more realistic steering.
  2. Motor Torque: Ensure that the DC motor provides enough torque to turn the steering mechanism. Larger wheels or tighter turning radii will require higher torque.
  3. Control Method: Decide if the steering will be manual (e.g., using a turning knob on the toy) or remote (e.g., using a radio control). This will impact the selection of the steering mechanism and whether an additional servo motor for steering control will be needed.
  4. Ease of Assembly: The steering mechanism should be easily assembled and robust enough to withstand regular use. This is particularly important for toys, which may be handled roughly.
  5. Cost: Depending on your budget, you may want to opt for a more cost-effective, simple design, or a more complex one that offers better performance but at a higher cost.

Remember, the key to choosing the best steering mechanism is to understand the specific requirements of your toy tractor, and balance those with the complexity and cost of the steering mechanism. Always test the steering mechanism thoroughly to ensure it meets your requirements and performs reliably in its intended environment.
